Cartoon d’Or 2016

Artforum Bookshop
Duration 65:29

The Cartoon d’Or annually awards the best European animated short film. Under the auspices of CARTOON – the European Association of Animation Film with the support of the Creative Europe – MEDIA Programme, it rewards the very best of the best: only prize-winning films from major European festivals can compete.

A renowned jury of international experts then selects five finalists and a winner from this short list. The Cartoon d’Or is awarded every September at the Cartoon Forum  – the TV series pitching and co-production marketplace. The Cartoon d’Or is a pipeline between the directors of short films and the industry, and also helps talented artists kick-start new projects.

In 1991, then-unknown British director Nick Park won the first Cartoon d’Or with Creature Comforts. Notable names to have followed in Park’s footsteps include Sylvain Chomet, Jacques-Rémy Girerd, Mark Baker, Michael Dudok De Wit, Joanna Quinn and Benjamin Renner.
