Road to Eternity
directed by Mike L. Mitchell
In the spring of 2012 Obsidian Entertainment was on the rocks. With games like Neverwinter Nights 2 and Fallout: New Vegas in their portfolio they were well known and respected, but the cancellation of Stormlands by Microsoft (the game’s publisher) left them high and dry with too many idle employees. The situation was grim. Long-term Obsidian staffers had to be let go, and those who remained were demoralized. With time running out, they tried Kickstarter. Obsidian pitched a game inspired by classic RPGs such as Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale built on BioWare’s Infinity Engine. They called it Project Eternity and released the game as Pillars of Eternity to rave reviews. Road to Eternity tells the Eternity story from the dark days of 2012 to the immediate aftermath of the game’s release.
