The Boy and the Beast
directed by Mamoru Hosoda
The film combines familiar components to create a gripping, beautifully animated adventure with inventive storytelling to match its visual appeal. Kyuta, a young orphan living on the streets of Shibuya, slips into an alternate universe where he is raised by the bear-man, Kumatetsu. Despite their constant bickering, they begin training together and slowly form a bond as surrogate father and son. The Boy and the Beast is about acceptance and the growth of a beautiful relationship between two fiercely independent characters who somehow find a way to come together. Their fights are as wonderful as their growth as a team.
