The Red Turtle
directed by Michaël Dudok de Wit
Studio Ghibli’s first European co-production The Red Turtle is a beautifully animated, deceptively simple story with narrative layers as richly absorbing as its lovely visuals. This tiny artistic treasure of a unique collaboration between Studio Ghibli and animator Dudok de Wit (who received an Oscar for the short movie Father and Daughter) tells a magical story about the circle of human life, love, parenthood and changing generations, without words and only through perfect animation. The Red Turtle was awarded the special Un Certain Regard prize at the Cannes International Film Festival.
