Fest Anča and its history

Fest Anča International Animation Festival is the only Slovak multimedia festival focused on animated film mainly for adult audience. Its aim is to raise awareness about animated film as an autonomous art form and to educate about its multiple types and aspects.

The competitive programme of the festival comprises a selection of the most remarkable animated films completed in the last two years. By means of non-competitive thematic sections and regional focuses, Fest Anča presents significant milestones in the history of animation, in terms of their artistic and production qualities. Besides the international competition of animated short films and music videos and the non-competitive screening sections, the festival offers lectures, exhibitions, workshops, concerts, film screenings for children and many other accompanying events, such as Pecha Kucha Ancha and Animation Karaoke Battle.

The festival programme also includes Fest Anča Game Days, an event aimed to promote the videogame industry and the cooperation between videogame studios and animators. The industry forum called Fest Anča New Talents is an event for film professionals, focusing on the planning, development and presentation of animated film projects.

Since the first year, Fest Anča has taken place in Žilina, in the Stanica Cultural Centre and as the festival grew in size, other venues, such as the New Synagogue were added. Fest Anča is built upon their unique, informal atmosphere, surpassing the traditional concept of film festivals. You won`t find any red carpets at our festival and no distinction is drawn between filmmakers, organizers and visitors.

The Fest Anča team strives to develop and support Slovak animation and videogame industry. All year long, we inform about the latest happenings in animated film and offer many opportunities for the Slovak animation community to meet and network. Under the label of Kino Fest Anča, we organize animated film projections and discussions with filmmakers. During the year, we also distribute the winning films of the last edition of Fest Anča International Festival, under the name of Best of Fest Anča.

We are looking forward to your visit!
