13th Edition of Fest Anča Offers a Program to Animation Professionals

Fest Anča 2020 once again features program not only for animation buffs, but also for professionals from the field of animation. A special Industry section will take place this year as part of the festival, offering animators, producers, students and teachers workshops, lectures and a discussion platform. The Industry events are held on Friday and Saturday, August 28 and 29 in Rosenfeld Palace.

Slovak animation professionals will discuss the current state, production possibilities and the impact of the pandemic that revealed the weaknesses of the animation industry in Slovakia. 13th edition of Fest Anča will present animation producers as well as the animators themselves. The program will be concluded with a moderated discussion on the topic of the stability of animated film in Slovakia.

The Industry program will also include a presentation of the Animation League for Increased Cooperation in Europe (A.L.I.C.E.). The project connects six European regions: Wallonia, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, Rzeszów, Puglia, Catalonia and the Slovak Republic (mediated by the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic). A.L.I.C.E. seeks to create better conditions for the development of the animation industry and interregional cooperation. Simultaneously, it raises awareness of Slovak animation and creates space for professional discussion.

At Fest Anča, the A.L.I.C.E. discussion and subsequent presentation will take place on Friday, and you will have a chance to meet the project representatives for networking. On Saturday there will be a screening of animated films from the project’s partner countries.

A special part of the Industry program is dedicated to a workshop on copyright led by lecturers from LITA  Slovak civil Association of Authors). The workshop will build on last year’s successful cooperation between Fest Anča and LITA and will once again help animators find out more about their rights and navigate in the complex world of copyright in animation. The workshop will take place on Saturday, and as capacity is limited, it is necessary to register in advance.

Fest Anča 2020 International Animation Festival is financially supported by the Slovak Audiovisual Fund and LITA Fund, and supported using Slovak Arts Council public funds. The festival is held under the auspices of the Minister of Culture, Mrs Natália Milanová, and Mayor of Žilina, Mr Peter Fiabáne.
